Let’s face it, experience is often more important than a qualification. Alongside swimming I’ve been an outdoor enthusiast my entire life. Hill walking, kayaking, climbing and cycling have all been a part of my life at some point. I’m passionate about the environment, I studied environmental science at university (I was always the first person to volunteer to get in the river when we did fieldwork) and worked in the environment sector for over 10 years.
I swim multiple times a week outdoors and have been doing so for many years now. I’ve also taken on a number of long distance swim events and adventure swims. You can read about a couple of my favourite trips here: The Hurly Burly’s Done and here: Summer Solstice Summit to Sea.
In the summer months I run a small open water swimming venue in the Peak. We’ve been running on a volunteer basis since 2017 and help swimmers have a safe and enjoyable space to swim with full safety cover. We’re a fully accredited Beyond Swim venue. For more information on these session please have a look at Glossop triathlon club.
I also work with the Outdoor Swimming Society, Swim England, Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, Alpkit and many others to promote wild swimming, wider inland water access and water safety.
